I guess the whole purpose of going to Vietnam was not only for a nice relaxing vacation, but rather, a cousin's wedding. Not just a wedding, but two weddings. The reasoning for doing two weddings is because the brides hometown is in Da Nang, and the groom's hometown is in Saigon aka Ho Chi Minh City. The first part of the wedding was at Da Nang City, something similar to it would probably be like California. There are beaches everywhere and mountains pretty close by as well. Aftering waking up at 6 in the morning, we went to the groom's house (who is my cousin), ate some bun bo hue, and got ready to head over to the bride's home, which was an hour away. We went in 5 cars (4 of them were 7 seaters). There was a camera person sitting backwards on a moped to capture a lot of the driving too.. which I thought was pretty intense and scary.. At the bride's house, we ate some fruit and hum bao, watched the bride get showered on with jewelry from the parents and prayed to Buddha. There were also introductions made from both houses. My dad somewhat mced the grooms side. Then they receieved lucky money and other various gifts from close relatives from both the groom and bride side. Interesting point I must add is that rather than buying a wedding card, people in Vietnam put money in the invitations they receive and even the envelopes they get sent and give it right back to the bride and groom. How odd, I think we were the only family to actually buy a card.
After that hour, we all went to a restaurant to eat. There were 10 cars headed to this restaurant. The bride and groom had a grand entrance (reminded my of My Super Sweet 16) with two dancers followed up by two flower girls. They arrived coming down from an elevator holding hands.. with fireworks and confetti. It was nice, and definitely something I have never seen at a wedding before. I got movie of it on my camera, which I will post up someday. I met a couple of cousins, one was 19 and it was actually his birthday too. Haha, and it was a little hard talking to him on account of him only talking in Vietnamese. But it was okay, he was pretty cool. Food was pretty ordinary, nothing too exquisite. People were drinking like crazy though, there were beer bottles lined up along the walls and people were singing drunk karaoke... It was kind of entertaining, but a little embarassing for themselves. Everything ended at about 1.
Afterwards, we went to the beach! It was pretty fun since I had friends that came with us to Vietnam from Kent. We stood out like others because we wore bikinis... the other girls wore their actual clothes.. like real shorts and shirts into the water. The worst part was these brat boys that kept trying to talk to us. Being super rude and obnoxious. We were at this place to wash off with these buckets that you pour over yourself and those guys were splashing water at us! Even when we were toweling off in the changing room AND after we went outside and were dry.. Complete jerks, we were uuber pissed >=[ But beisdes that, the beach was very nice and the sand was very soft.
Went back to the hotel to get ready for our trip back to Saigon for the part two of the wedding! Which is today... Had to wake up at 5:30 am. Now, I am just waiting and chillin and the grooms house (with the cutest kid sleeping next to me and Home Alone 2 on television) until we go to eat. Story of my life right here. Some massive shopping later.
Back on Saturday fools.
